Since these are just rotated squares you'll always have the corners go "outside". Looking at your screenshot I think you can solve the issues by reducing the cable thickness,  or maybe adding a 2D mask component on top to cut the unwanted corners.

If you meant that you need all the pixels perfectly aligned (all horizontal) unfortunately this is not possible, but this is a great advice for future improvements.

Appreciate the very handy demo scene and instructions. 

Is there any way to stop the cable segments rotating?

For example it looks great when both ends are exactly level but if I have either side slightly higher or lower the individual "pixel" squares in each segment rotate and break the illusion.
